Bermagui River – South Coast NSW
Bermagui River is located at the heart of the Bermagui recreation and fishing areas. It’s 7kms long and flows eastward into the Bermagui harbour and out to the Tasman sea. The river holds a large number of estuaries fish species, with plenty of great locations to cast and enjoy a great day of fishing.
Where is the Bermagui River? – The heart of town, 5 hours’ drive south of Sydney.
Boat Ramps – Situated right across the road from Bermagui Bait and Tackle. The first right after the bridge, heading into town.
Where to Fish? The best area is usually the first 2 -3 kilometers from the river mouth. The mouth of the river is protected by a break wall, allowing the many boats and trailers to the enter and leave the Bermagui Harbor. These walls create and ideal location to cast. Sand flathead, bream, whiting and tailor are the common species.
Further along, before the bridge is a large flat area, which provides the playground for Bermagui’s recreational water life. If you can avoid the many kayaks, canoes and stand up paddles boards, you will enjoy the great fishing opportunities. Cast along the many flat areas into the deeper channels. Look for the moving tides.
Under the bridge is a popular spot, particularly around dusk to late at night. blackfish, bream, yellowtail, flathead, trevally, whiting and the rare mulloway.
Further along head towards the right hand side along River St. There is houses and park land with plenty of areas to cast out. If you’re lucky enough be on boat head towards the island which is clearly evident during low tide.
Further along past River st the river deepens and creates great opportunities to catch plenty of species. Bream, whiting, leatherjackets, and octopus are commonly found. .
The river widens and narrows for a further 2 – 3 km’s. The only access is with a tinny. However there are little estuaries and inlets that create great opportunities.
